There was a popular term, Where’s the Beef? Clara Peller said it in an 80s Wendy’s commercial. It was on shirts and quoted in my school often.
Obedience is an action of love. Saul was the first king of Israel. He was 99% obedient in tasks. This made him 100% disobedient. When he disobeyed, the answer was to provide sacrifices. He appeased God with cattle and not surrendering his heart.
What if someone slept with our spouse? Then handed us good beef for the transgression. An apology for the adultery. Some high-end meat. What would our response be?
I could not say where’s the beef! It would make me furious. I got cheated on in most relationships. Obedience is what I desire. That is the action of love.
The Lord desires obedience. There are vices we pick up. We can struggle with surrendering them. The Lord understands. He reveals messes when we are ready. We do when the moment arrives. Then yield them up to Him.
The Lord desires us to fear and reverence Him. Then walk in obedience to what He calls us to. Then everything else is rotten beef for Wellington.
It is difficult for us to be obedient, Lord. Help us surrender our vices to You. Thank You for being so helpful in this matter. We love You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
