Now bands of raiders from Aram had gone out and had taken captive a young girl from Israel, and she served Naaman’s wife. 3 She said to her mistress, “If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.” 2 Kings 5:2-3 NIV.
Every time I drive somewhere in Marshall, I come across a cemetery. While driving by, I sometimes gaze at the tombstones. People who used to live here. After they had lived, no one remembers them now. The ground received several buried bodies—those who were important to someone.
In remembering the greats of the Bible, their legacy lives on: Peter, Paul, and Mary. Hopefully, we will recall Jesus. The girl who saved Naaman was like others—somebody unknown and unpopular. Her name is unknown to us. A girl, taken and served, was a captive. No one visits her grave or knows where it is. While life continued, her world was forgotten.
Despite the darkness and dismal atmosphere, this devotional has a light. God, being all-knowing, remembers. No matter what, the Lord never forgets. Every individual possesses a distinct narrative, a poiema. In eternity, that story holds a special place. Heaven will reward Billy Graham and others for their impact on bringing people into the kingdom. One Grandmother could surpass that by praying for her Grandchildren. Our obedience to the Lord's calling is crucial to advance His Kingdom.
The impact of our lives remains unknown. We may never see them. By helping a few individuals, we could make a difference on our journey. We ask for healing and overcoming hurt in our prayers. We live unpopular lives. People observe others thriving on social media and other platforms. Our stories will conclude when our name gets inscribed on a tombstone. Those passing by will remain unaware of our identity. However, God will. The light will shine throughout eternity.
We are grateful for Your recognition, Lord. Thank You for acknowledging what gets done in secret and bringing glory to Your name. As we make a difference, we appreciate any opportunity. In Jesus’ name, amen.
