But I tell you that everyone will have to give an account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. Matthew 12:36 NIV.
Politics have always been sketchy. Leaders too. The midterm elections closed when I wrote this. I studied 2 Kings 6 that week. Ben Hadad had a spy in his kingdom. They got vital information back to the Israelites. But the Lord heard Ben Hadad in his bedroom. He was the spy.
Every leader should listen. The Lord sees everything we do. We think we get away with trouble, but it’s recorded in eternity. This should stretch our integrity.
“None of us, my lord the king,” said one of his officers, “but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you speak in your bedroom.” 2 Kings 6:12 NIV
This is a sobering verse. The Lord has a divine recorder in our lives. He sees everything, including our thoughts. When we believe we get away with our messes, the Lord documents them. We escape nothing.
We must pray the Lord reveals wrongdoings. Then repent and surrender them. He can change hearts and move us forward. Because if anything goes on in the world, the Lord notes it. No one will get away with anything. No President, congressperson, or any leader.
Help all of us to walk in integrity, Lord. We pray for our leaders and nation. We ask that You oversee their honesty. Help all of us to make the right decisions based on Your Word. In Jesus’ name, amen.
