Stormageddon!

A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. Proverbs 11:25 NIV.

This week a tornado hit our area of Texas. Eighty-mile winds took out trees and power lines. It was the first time our home lost power—two hundred thousand souls without it. My friend called the event Stormageddon! We went for five days with no water or air conditioning.

The response was robust, though. I met an elder who did not know me from Adam and offered his generator. Those who knew him said he would’ve driven an hour to install it.

I dropped my wallet today, and a man dropped it off. He drove around for an hour to find my house. I think he was technologically impaired. I offered a reward, but he told me his blessings were from God.

My stepson and his wife let us stay at their home to escape the heat and humidity. It was a room and a bathroom. It felt like the Ritz Carlton to me. They fed us and gave me a Father’s Day gift. I felt grateful.

We forget simple blessings: water, heat, air conditioning, and sewage. Yep, I said it. I love it because it goes somewhere else when we flush. Then a mighty blessing. The generosity of others. Praise God!

The greatest blessing is salvation. We can thank Him for the cross and resurrection. If Jesus never gave us anything else, it would be enough. He goes far beyond that, though.

Let's remember the simple blessings of life. Then when Stormageddon does come, we can remember what our blessings are, and not what we are stuck in.

Thank You that You are the keeper of the storms, Lord. When we go through the worst times, we have You. Thank You for your blessings in times of need. In Jesus’ name, amen.
