If he says, ‘Very well,’ your servant is safe. But if he loses his temper, you can be sure that he is determined to harm me. 1 Samuel 20:7 NIV.
David lost everything at the point of this verse. I love this account because we see David’s humanness. He lost his wife, position, and property. Then ran for his life because King Saul wanted to kill him.
David got desperate here. He even asked Jonathan to lie to Saul. It comforted me as I read through these verses this morning. The Lord knew I needed a Jonathan. This led me to prayer and reflection.
The Lord revealed something. I wrote about the loss I experienced in this book. It took me 1200 miles to Louisiana. I prayed for each path I could take. This one kept being confirmed. I stepped in faith to be with my friend in Shreveport.
Ronnie and I hung out when we could. I invited him to come and teach at the church I led. Then I spent time with him in DC or Louisiana. Those times were far from each other. The Lord prompted me to come here. We spent many emotional times together.
Ronnie also counseled me. Jonathan was around forty, and David was in his twenties. The Lord placed David with him to prepare for leadership. Ronnie was older, and even though we both were seasoned leaders, he had wisdom in other areas I needed.
The Lord knew I needed him in my desperate Jonathan moments. I felt helpless, and the Lord placed me with my Thunder Brother. He was qualified to handle my weaknesses. His ministry focused on people who dealt with loss and struggles. I only understood that once I read these verses today. The Lord knew I needed him. He did too. Ronnie gave me wisdom those few years before He went home. I look back and cherish those times.
We will all go through overwhelming situations. We always have Jesus. But if anyone is going through something today, I pray the Lord sends us a Jonathan—someone seasoned with wisdom to help us.
We pray for anyone who lives in desperation this week, Lord. Please shower them with Your love and peace. Then send them a Jonathan to help lead them. Bring them wisdom and comfort in these moments. In the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
