You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. 2 Corinthians 3:3 NIV.
I got disturbed this week. A submarine traveling to the Titanic got lost. Then saw something terrible on social media. People joked about this dire situation. It was in poor taste. Why do we do this?
There is an answer. I remember unsaved me and others as kids. We joked about the Challenger explosion. Then laughed at other tragedies. We were not born in a redeemed state. Conviction and compassion came later as a believer.
The difference is, do we have Jesus, or does He have us? People who joke like this are unsaved. They do not know Jesus. We need to pray for their salvation.
Christians can also get stuck in their carnality. The Word says we are living Epistles. That means people read us. We might be the only Bible they open. What do they see?
A smut magazine, racist joke book, gossip column, or some other garbage. Or do we reflect Jesus? We display that when we are around others. Our stories speak volumes.
The families of the Titan submarine need prayer. They do not need jokes about their families. That is someone’s son, parent, and loved one. We should not joke but seek Jesus.
Help us live for You, Lord. Let us be Your example to others. We pray for the families of this tragedy. Shower them with Your love and strength in this time. Please point them to You in this terrible tragedy. In Jesus' name, amen.
