The day after tomorrow, toward evening, go to the place where you hid when this trouble began and wait by the stone Ezel. 1 Samuel 20:19 NIV.
The first Rated-R movie I saw in the theater was Aliens. Bill Paxton played a stellar performance as Hudson. He made everyone panic along with him. When the aliens came, he had some of the funniest lines. He made stress funny. But pressure never really is comical as it happens to us.
I love the humanness of David. No man could touch him. He got anointed to be king. Then he panicked. There was a reason for it. David lost his wife, position, and everything else. He could not even receive counsel from Samuel. Then became stressed. He then asked his friend Jonathan to lie to his dad. David needed to know the truth.
These verses comfort me. I panicked when I lost everything from 2017 to 2018—then got caught up in my humanness. I struggled and made mistakes. David did the same thing. He waited for the Lord to reveal answers at Ezel. I sat and stayed, too.
Ezel was a rock or memorial. It means the stone that shows the way. David waited for answers at the rock that led the way.
We wait upon the rock. Jesus leads as we build on Him. He showed me the steps as I waited on His foundation. Then the Lord led me in the right direction. This helped me reach where I am today in 2023—a much more stable place.
We can get to a certain point. We believe it cannot get worse. Then it does. The best place to be at that moment is resting at Ezel. Wait upon the rock.
We pray for anyone who feels panicked today, Lord. Then request that You help them find peace. Would You do that for us, Lord? Thank You for Your mighty movement in individual pains. In Jesus’ name, amen.
